I heard there was an interesting event at Kawaragi Elementary School, so I went to check it out and wanted to share it with you〜.
This is Nishitsu’s third time covering an elementary school in Nishinomiya〜. Hamawaki Elementary and the compulsory education school (combined elementary and junior high school)
There are so many fun-looking playground structures〜.
For those who graduated from Kawaragi Elementary, this probably brings back all kinds of nostalgic memories〜

Whoa, whoa, whoa, this place is seriously fired up〜
It’s an event called “The Fish Quiz Encyclopedia That Makes You Want to Retort”! Kawaragi Elementary really does some super interesting stuff.
Taking the stage is “Sakana no Oniisan Kawa-chan,” who has been active in all kinds of events at places like Nishinomiya Shrine and Nishinomiya Gardens.
He also composed the song “Tachiuo Banzai,” which aired on TV Tokyo’s “Shina Pushu” and has been viewed 5 million times on YouTube. He’s been very active, even appearing with Sakana-kun and Miyazon.
No wonder the kids were so excited.
But how did such a fun quiz event end up happening at an elementary school〜?
How the quiz event came to Kawaragi Elementary
This story goes back to autumn 2022. It seems two third-grade students from Kawaragi Elementary attended one of Kawa-chan’s events. There, they heard a shocking story.
After hearing that “by 2040, sushi restaurants might no longer have toppings lined up,” they strongly felt that all their friends absolutely needed to know about it too.
The two students from Kawaragi Elementary directly appealed to Principal Nonaka, saying, “We want you to invite Kawa-chan to our school.” What incredibly proactive elementary schoolers〜〜
Kawa-chan, an ambassador for Furuno Electric, received the request from the principal and happily agreed.
To respond to the children’s enthusiasm, Furuno Electric launched its very first “school visit program” as part of the “Umi wo Mirai ni Project”! They decided to support it with everything they had.
Preparations for the event at Kawaragi Elementary steadily moved forward. From applying to the board of education to planning the event content, everything was handled thoroughly.
And then,
they paid a courtesy visit to the Mayor of Nishinomiya↓
President of Furuno Electric: “We want to work with Kawa-chan to share the appeal of the sea at elementary schools around the city!”
Kawa-chan: “!!”
Mayor Ishii: “Let’s definitely do it!!”
The adults are cool too
And so,
Kawaragi Elementary was filled with tons of smiles〜〜〜
One of the people who helped spark this event was Mr./Ms. Iishi.
Their dream came true two years after directly appealing to the principal. “I’m very happy!” they said proudly in front of everyone. Two years as an elementary school student must have felt almost endless〜
A quiz event packed with Nishinomiya topics
It was a quiz about fish, but it was full of Nishinomiya stories, including some content that made you go, “Wait, really?”〜.
There was a three-choice quiz about “tachiuo”, or cutlassfish, which are often caught around Nishinomiya-hama. The quiz asked why tachiuo are called “ghosts”
There were some pretty difficult fish questions
