A Shop That Recreated the Legendary Curry from “Samboa,” a Former Nishinomiya-Kitaguchi Restaurant
According to Marty, who provided the information, Curry & Bar “インディゴ” served a recreated version of the curry from a restaurant called “Samboa.”
According to Marty @ Nishitsu SP↓
Quoted from Indigo インディゴ – Facebook
“Samboa” was apparently located by the south rotary of Nishinomiya-Kitaguchi Station until the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake.
It was known for a sour-spicy roux unlike anything people had tasted before, plenty of cabbage, sour dressing, and an ultra-thin cutlet. Some people got hooked on the combination, while others couldn’t handle it at all, so opinions were apparently split right down the middle. It seems to be a nostalgic flavor for people born around 1950, something they remember from their youth.
There was a detailed write-up in Nishimag’s article too〜

Kagayaki 509 @ Nishitsu SP sent us a photo of Indigo’s curry〜! Maybe it’s bean curry? 🫘 Looks like they serve all kinds of curry〜
Finally
“Samboa curry” was a taste many Nishinomiya locals grew up with during the Showa era. It’s really sad that “インディゴ,” a place that recreated that historic flavor, is closing…😭 Some of our readers may have actually tried it before. If you want to taste that legendary curry one more time, be sure to stop by before they close〜
If you have any photos of Samboa or Indigo’s curry, please send them to Nishitsu〜
※Marty & Toki no Tabibito, thank you for the information!!
