Daiei and KOHYO Are Giving Away Cleaning Goods Funded by Plastic Bag Proceeds

Actually, the money from those “paid plastic bags” is being put to good use here in Nishinomiya. The proceeds from plastic bags at Daiei and KOHYO supermarkets are being used to fund free cleanup goods in Nishinomiya.

Nishinomiya City is holding the “Pirika Litter Pickup Campaign.” It’s an event where you can get cleanup goods for free just by posting on “Pirika,” an SNS dedicated to litter pickup.

Giveaway items（first come, first served）

• Litter pickup tongs（length: approx. 60cm）
• Nishinomiya City-designated garbage bags（30L, with handles, pack of 10）

These cleanup goods are funded by money donated to the city from the proceeds of plastic shopping bags donated by Daiei and KOHYO. The amount is an impressive 475,759 yen!! It’s pretty nice to know that the plastic bags we casually buy are being used for activities that help protect Nishinomiya’s environment, isn’t it?

These tongs are apparently called “Mazing,” official litter pickup tongs approved by SpoGOMI, which turns litter pickup into a sport. They’re silicone-coated, safe, and easy to use with only light force. They sell for around 2,800 yen on Amazon

How to get them

1. Download the SNS “Pirika” app
2. Post a litter pickup photo with the tag “#2024西宮市ピリカごみ拾いキャンペーン”
3. Show your post screen at City Hall or a branch office

That’s all it takes to get the tongs and garbage bags. The campaign runs until February 28! It’s first come, first served, so if you’re interested, don’t wait too long!

You can show it at one of the counters at the Beautification Planning Section （Main Government Building 8F / Environmental Affairs Department Building 2F）, Yamaguchi Branch Office, or Shiose Branch Office.
