what’s probably the narrowest bus stop in Nishinomiya and a sidewalk that looks just wide enough for a bus to drive on are near Uegahara Elementary School, and the rice field in front of the school’s main gate has been filled with water.
The frogs have started their big chorus(^^♪
Here it is on the map↓
The address is around 1, Uegahara 2-bancho, Nishinomiya City.
About the Frogs
The ones croaking were Japanese tree frogs.
From the Honda Camp Outdoor Picture Book
It really makes you wonder where they come from once the rice fields are filled with water.
And there are a ton of them croaking…(^^)
Apparently, Japanese tree frogs can live even in places without water,
and until rice-planting season, they seem to stay in people’s gardens, nearby fields, grassy areas, forests, and similar places. Come to think of it, Uegahara has plenty of places where they could hang out!
The frogs that croak are the males, and apparently their calls are different when they’re looking for females and when it looks like rain♪
The eggs become tadpoles in about 3 days, then turn into frogs over about a month. Every year, the areas around the rice fields end up full of frogs^^;
Note: Frog skin apparently has toxins, so if you touch one, be sure to wash your hands well! Be especially careful around your eyes and any cuts!(^^)!
Finally
The sound of frogs croaking isn’t unusual in areas with lots of fields,
but here in Uegahara, where there’s a road with buses running by and a Gusto right next door I think it’s pretty urban here!, there are lots of frogs croaking!
Yesterday, I could even hear frogs while waiting at a traffic light on the Nakatsuhama Line!

The sound of frogs is another lovely sound of Nishinomiya♪
