If you can get this right, you’ll prove you’re a true Nishinomiya expert. It’s time for the “Nishinomiya Quiz” corner.
This article is brought to you by “Nishinomiya Kitaguchi Dental and Oral Surgery, open year-round,” a dental clinic that supports Nishitsu.
Here’s today’s quiz↓
Q. How do you read this town name? “高座町”

The Nishitsu team’s correct answer rate was 50%.

This is where Nishinomiya Municipal Nishinomiya High School is located, which we recently featured in an article about “Ichinishi topping the Kansai university group rankings for successful applicants” (^o^)/

In front of Ichinishi’s main gate, there’s a staircase commonly called the “100-step staircase,” and we even went to check whether it really has 100 steps (^o^)/
The answer is “Takakuracho”.
The Origin of “高座町”
According to information from Nishinomiya Internet TV,
“高” apparently doesn’t mean a high place, but a noble place, while “座” refers to a place to sit. Together, it’s said to mean a place worthy of gods and powerful clans!
Ancient ruins have been found in the hilly area around Takakuracho, so the name fits the meaning of the characters perfectly.
Here is Takakuracho on the map↓
The address is Takakuracho, Nishinomiya City, Hyogo Prefecture.
In Closing
In neighboring Ashiya City, there’s a place called “高座の滝,” but that’s read Koza, not Takakura.
“A noble place” has a pretty nice ring to it, doesn’t it? (^o^)/
