Yesterday (May 5) was Children’s Day.
This year, we saw koinobori 🎏 swimming energetically all around Nishinomiya.
We gathered up some of the koinobori that were flying on Children’s Day〜😄

Shukugawa (National Route 43 to Rinko Line)
This is from the bridge just south of National Route 43. From here toward the Rinko Line, so many koinobori were swimming. There were an incredible 15 in a row! What a sight〜🙌 They weren’t up around here last year, so seeing them back this year was really moving 😭
In some spots, you could see them so close you could almost touch them (or wear one on your head lol). You could even walk right under the koinobori〜🎶
The koinobori reflected on the water were lovely too〜. They really looked like they were swimming in the river 🐟
Shukugawa (Shukugawa Station to in front of Shukugawa Community Center)
This is in front of Shukugawa Station. It’s a rare spot where you can see them together with the Hankyu trains. I snapped this right as a train was coming in 📷

They circle all the way around above the plaza. It almost looks like they’re doing a bon dance〜

Turns out, it was a koinobori peeking out from the window 🎏
When they were first hung, the higoi (red carp) and kogoi (small carp) were on the windows on the opposite side, but on Children’s Day they were on the same side, swimming happily together. Sadly, it seems they were already gone today, May 6. See you next year〜👋
Tsumon River (near Kofu Bridge)
So many of them〜! So colorful〜♪
Apparently these were made by children from a nearby kindergarten. Each one has its own personality in the way the scales are drawn〜
Lastly
It feels like fewer and fewer homes are decorating with koinobori 🎏 these days, so it’s nice to be able to come across them around town like this.
The fish called “koi” is a strong fish that swims energetically even in fast-flowing rivers. May children grow up healthy and strong, just like those koi.
