The ship playground equipment was kind of like a three-story structure.
If you call this bottom part of the ship the first floor.
Then this deck is the second floor. There used to be something here that let you go up to the third floor.

We asked the Parks and Greenery Division, who always show up on Nishitsu whenever we have a park-related question〜
Apparently, during a safety inspection they found that the wood had deteriorated badly, so it was removed around last summer.

This ship playground equipment was apparently built about 40 years ago.

Since it’s made of wood, I guess deterioration is unavoidable. Wooden playground equipment was apparently popular back then, but there seems to be less of it these days.
This part is called the mast, a vertical pole set up on the deck of a sailing ship to hold the sails. This part is still solid.
The sails are torn from deterioration.
There are some rusty spots, but surprisingly, the ropes still look pretty sturdy.
They say safety inspections for park playground equipment like this are carried out once a year, and safety standards have been getting stricter and stricter lately.
The parts leading down to the first floor are gone too
Several things that used to be on the deck have disappeared.
There used to be several spots where you could go down below the floor, but they’re all gone now.

This side also let you climb down, kind of like a rope jungle gym.

You could climb down this metal ladder too. These were also removed at the end of last year because their size and other factors no longer met current safety standards.
The two slides are still there!
And you can still keep playing Titanic! Though I guess not many kids these days know Titanic〜
I’m sure many people used to play here back in the day. Since it’s made of wood, there will probably come times when this scenery changes little by little. Every now and then, take a moment to soak in the memories.
