Today, 9/2, around 8:00 to 9:00 p.m., the western sky was flashing quite a lot.

For over 30 minutes now,
in the sky from Kobe toward Nishinomiya and Amagasaki,
lightning❓ has been flashing in the same spot with no sound😳🙄 pic.twitter.com/7ekJlC6Xqk— NECROMANCE ネクロマンス️☢️ (@Necromance_Of) September 2, 2025
This post was at 9:38 p.m., but Shachomi also saw it around 8:40 p.m. and thought, “There’s no sound.”
It didn’t feel like thunder is rumbling. It felt more like lightning is flashing,.
After looking it up, there seem to be two possible explanations.
- “Cloud-to-cloud lightning,” which happens inside thunderclouds and produces no audible sound
- A lightning strike more than 40 to 50 km away (too far away for the sound to be heard)
The direction was west.
Apparently it was lightning over toward Mie😳
No wonder that meteor the other day was visible over such a wide area🧐 https://t.co/PWAyQOvdJq

Apparently there was lightning over in Mie. That’s about exactly 100 kilometers away, so it must have been some serious lightning.
The Yahoo weather comments about the Mie lightning show it was visible over an amazingly wide area, which is incredible pic.twitter.com/hJHm1206sV

There were quite a lot of sightings.
I’m in southern Mie, but…
The lightning in Ise City is insane😭
I’ve never seen anything like this…
Is everyone near Ise okay?

From southern Mie, it was apparently in the direction of Ise, so it really must have been intense.
*Necromance, thank you for the information!!
