Tokushima Prefecture’s ningyo joruri and puppet theater were passed down and developed by kugutsushi, or puppet masters, who lived near Nishinomiya Shrine from the Muromachi period onward. It’s amazing that this tradition has been preserved for more than 500 years. We’d love to see them come again next January 5!
