This year there are two Days of the Ox during the doyo period, and the first one was Tuesday, July 21.
August 2 is also a Day of the Ox during the doyo period~
(Officially, there are 7 Days of the Ox during the doyo period in 2020)
So, we went to eat eel at “竹葉亭,” located a little north of Nishinomiya Ohashi Bridge~
The Food at “竹葉亭”

Eel Sushi(4 pieces) 1,600 yen
The eel had a rich flavor, and there was plenty of sansho pepper, giving it a nice punch~

Umaki 1,800 yen
It had an elegant flavor that was quite different from the “umaki” you make at home😀

Edo-style Eel Hitsumabushi(Momo) 3,400 yen

When you open the lid of the ohitsu rice container, there’s a huge serving of eel

For your first and second bowls, add plenty of the three kinds of condiments, mix well, and enjoy. For your third bowl, pour in the broth and enjoy.

There are three condiments: “sansho pepper,” “wasabi,” and “green onion”
How should you mix the condiments for the first and second bowls?
Should you go with just one kind?
It’s fun getting closer and closer to the flavor you like♪

Serve it in a rice bowl, add your favorite condiments, mix it up, and enjoy~
The eel was so delicious that I forgot to take photos of both my first and second bowls. (Sorry😅)
As for the all-important taste…
“The eel was so fluffy and tender, just unbelievably fluffy😃”
All the condiments went really well with it~
I mixed all three together, stirred them in, and ate it that way~
Mixing the three makes the flavor change depending on where you’re eating from, which was really interesting~

When I got to the third bowl, I suddenly thought, “Oh no!! I haven’t taken any photos…”
So we made sure to get a perfect shot of the broth version(Mama did)
The broth version feels like ochazuke, so it goes down smoothly, and even when I was full, I could eat it with no problem~
