By the way, this area appears in the movie when Gontawara Miho (Mitsuki Tanimura) spots bracken growing in this cutting and talks with Kosaka Keiichi (Ryo Katsuji) on the train about wanting to pick some.I don’t know whether bracken actually grows there.

Rails that had worn down and could no longer be used were repurposed as parts of platform roofs, fences along the tracks, and other structures. These days, because of revisions to the Building Standards Act and because rails are now more specialized for use as rails, they apparently aren’t used this way anymore. It also seems that station renovations have made reused rail roofs and similar features less common.
