The other day, I happened to look over at the Mukogawa River and saw lots of wild birds.

And when I looked more closely,

they were almost all black and white birds!!
What was going on!?
It looked just like they were playing Othello!
Unfortunately, I only had my iPhone with me, so just as I was about to move a little closer to take a photo,

Ah…

Oh no…
Result: Black wins!😂
A few days later, I went back with a camera that had a light telephoto lens, and

they were hanging out peacefully, one bird at a time!
I waited for a while and also checked farther upstream and downstream, but there weren’t nearly as many as the other day.
Maybe there was something tasty there that day😅
By the way, I looked up what kinds of birds they were.
I think the white ones were little egrets, and the black ones were great cormorants!

The place where there were so many birds was on the south side of where the Mukogawa River and the JR railway tracks intersect.
Here it is on the map↓↓
The address is 1-2 Koshienguchi, Nishinomiya City, Hyogo Prefecture.
In Closing
When I took the time to observe the river birds closely, I noticed all kinds of interesting things in the bird world, like their unique ways of walking and swimming, and even territorial disputes.
With COVID-19 cases rising quickly again, parks and outdoor spots might be a good choice for weekend outings.
Please consider stopping by the Mukogawa River too♪
I’ve been hoping to run into a nutria, but I’ve never seen one in Nishinomiya!
Are they not around anymore?
If you happen to spot one, please let us know!
