Serendix Partners Inc., based in Koyoen, has launched Japan’s first project to create houses using a 3D printer with the aim of building the world’s most advanced homes. This month, the Sphere prototype design was unveiled, created by Masayuki Sono, who is involved in NASA’s Mars colonization project.

The goals behind bringing the cutting-edge “Sphere” house to life
- Create a Sphere-shaped home with a 3D printer that is resistant to natural disasters.
- Have homes built by robots (3D printers).
- Incorporate the world’s most advanced IoT and AI technologies.
- Exhibit “Sphere,” a cutting-edge home, at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan, hosted by the Japan Association for the 2025 World Exposition.
- Already registered with Super City Open Lab under infrastructure development as a proposal for the world’s most advanced robot-built housing.
- Build a 30-tsubo home for 3 million yen.
It seems that several companies overseas are currently developing 3D-printed homes, but in Japan, this Koyoen-based company is the only one doing so. By using a spherical shape (Sphere), they are developing homes that do not require a structural frame.
With the number of working carpenters declining year by year, they apparently believe that 3D printers (robotization) will be necessary in the future.
Final Thoughts
Just hearing the phrase “a house made with a 3D printer” is exciting. It’s hard to say whether this is something for the near future or the distant future, but maybe it means a sci-fi-like world could become reality.
