We visited “Copel Plus Kurakuen Classroom”, where children take lessons with sparkling eyes~ ![]()
Copel Plus is a child development support school that helps children ages 0 to 6 (preschoolers) with developmental disabilities and their parents.
They use a huge variety of learning materials in therapy, with an amazing 2,000+ items!
With 25 years of developmental support know-how, they help children joyfully build more “I can do it!” moments ![]()
This time, we’ll show you the Kurakuen Classroom, which opened this June: the rooms, the learning materials, and even the teachers (instructors)! ![]()

This is the entrance to the classroom. Copel Plus’s character, “Peru-kun,” is drawn big on the bright pink band, making it feel exciting even before you step inside♪ There’s a dedicated covered parking space right in front, so you can enter the classroom without getting wet even on rainy days~😊 There are also partner parking lots nearby, which is reassuring🚗
Now, let’s head inside!

After entering and passing through the foyer, there’s a bright hall lined with four doors leading to private rooms~
Why are there four private rooms? Because the rooms are clearly separated depending on the course!
Copel Plus’s Two Courses
Individual Therapy (Private Class)
…One-on-one with an instructor, children work on a rich variety of tasks suited to their personality and developmental stage.
Group Lessons (Social Lesson Class)
…In small groups of up to six children, they work on tasks such as sitting down and understanding instructions, as well as game-based tasks to help them understand rules.
At the Kurakuen Classroom, there are:
- “Individual Therapy” rooms: two
- “Group Lesson” room: one
- One “consultation room” used for meetings between parents and instructors
That’s the setup.

Here’s what it looks like inside an “Individual Therapy” room. This is basically a room where the child and instructor work together one-on-one~😊

We got to observe a lesson with a child who had come for individual therapy on the day of our visit. The instructor smoothly brought out one learning material after another, and amazingly, during a one-hour lesson, they used around 30 different materials, including cards and songs! For preschool-age children, they also incorporate learning elements~🙋

The “Individual Therapy” and “Group Lesson” rooms have windows with one-way mirrors, so parents can quietly watch their child working hard from the hall(during lessons, the hall lights are turned off to make it easier to see inside the rooms🌛). After the lesson, parents talk with the instructor about things the child showed particular interest in and signs of growth, which helps lead into the next lesson.

“Individual Therapy” lessons also include programs that get children moving. On this day, it was the child’s first time trying a hula hoop! After receiving lots of praise from the instructor, we got to see a big, beaming smile~!

We also asked the mother who came with the child a few questions.

Now, this is what a “Group Lesson” looks like. At the Kurakuen Classroom, children work in groups of three to five, practicing smoother communication with friends and understanding rules.

These are therapy learning materials(and this is only a tiny portion). Cards, pretend-play items, numbers, letters, and more are prepared in four stages according to each child’s situation. Even more impressive, each of the roughly 350 classrooms nationwide has different materials, and they’re swapped out every month😂 The materials used this month won’t return to the Kurakuen Classroom until about two years later!

The instructors have solid developmental support know-how
They carefully understand each child’s interests and situation, as well as parents’ requests, and even arrange which materials to use and in what order~ ![]()

For Those Interested in Developmental Support
My child still isn’t speaking much…
It seems like communicating with other children after starting preschool might be difficult…
Something was pointed out at the city health checkup…
There are all kinds of reasons people visit a Copel Plus classroom.
How can we start attending? Do we need a disability certificate or rehabilitation certificate? How much does each session cost? You can begin by asking for a consultation or trying a free trial lesson~💌
