Katamino 6,160 yen (tax included)
A puzzle game where you fit 12 Tetris-like pieces perfectly into place. Apparently it helps develop mathematical thinking. Seems like it would make you better with shapes. There are lots of comments in the Amazon reviews saying adults get hooked on it too, and that it makes for good brain training.
Super Slide 4,400 yen (tax included)
This is a game where you slide the pieces according to the LED challenge shown in the upper left, and apparently there are 500 puzzles. It’s popular with elementary school kids, but the Amazon reviews say even 3- to 4-year-olds can play it. There are smartphone games like this too, but for a gift, a real physical item feels nicer.
Finally
When I looked up how many board games there are, apparently there are as many as 20,000 kinds. The Switch is fun too, but analog board games that you actually touch and play together tend to become fond family memories. Christmas is coming up soon, so why not stop by Hankyu and see what they have? Catan is really fun too, so if you’ve never played it, definitely give it a try.
