Quoted from Nishinomiya Hamawaki no Furusato-zukuri 2025 flyer submission
The roots of “Ebisu-kaki” are said to go back to around the Muromachi period, and it apparently originated around Nishinomiya and Hamawaki.

Ningyo Joruri puppet theater, which is also registered as a World Cultural Heritage, originally developed from this “Ebisu-kaki,” which evolved into a three-puppeteer style in Awaji and spread from there〜
Along with Ningyo Shibai Ebisuza, the group that revived “Ebisu-kaki,” students from Hamawaki Junior High School, as well as Nandan Junior High School and Mihara Junior High School from Awaji Island, will put on a wonderful performance〜👏

Finally
It’s really something to be proud of that the origin of a World Heritage tradition is right here in Nishinomiya〜🤗 On the day, there will also be Japanese taiko performances, lion dancing, and old-fashioned street performances like spinning objects on top of an umbrella, so it should feel fresh and exciting for kids too! Why not drop by casually〜
※Sasako @ Nishitsu SP, thank you for the information!!
