It looks like the paid seating service on JR trains running through Nishinomiya is getting a renewal.
Its name is “SUWAROCA”.

What exactly is a paid seating service?
SUWAROCA Standard
It’s attached to Car 9 on some Special Rapid trains, and it’s currently operated under the name “A-Seat”. The one with the same seats as limited express trains is “SUWAROCA Standard”.
SUWAROCA Light
By contrast, the service that simply turns regular seats into reserved seats is “SUWAROCA Light” (currently called Ure-Seat). Of course, the price is a bit cheaper. On local trains, these will be long bench seats.
How much does it cost?
SUWAROCA Standard (Special Rapid)
- e5489 ticketless is +600 yen, while paper tickets are +840 yen
SUWAROCA Light (Rapid and Local)
- e5489 ticketless is +300 yen, while paper tickets are +530 yen
How do you reserve a seat?
- You can buy one through “e5489 (online reservation)” or at a “Midori ticket machine”. You can make an online reservation even without registering as a member.
You can’t stand in the “SUWAROCA area”
休日のうれシート。
同時刻帯の新快速Aシートは席が埋まっていたけど快速うれシートは4人掛けの部分がほぼ空いていた。
初期投資のハードルの低さを考えたら全ての新快速にうれシート導入します!もありえるのかな?今日もできる範囲で頑張りましょう😌 pic.twitter.com/5kSMbKyyIm

The SUWAROCA area is “a space only for passengers with reserved seats.” Please note that standing passengers are not allowed there.
Finally
Rather than something like “commuting elegantly while seated every morning♪,” I think it’s probably best for those times when you feel like, “Ugh, the morning commute to work or school is rough today.” Try setting your own standard for when you’d use it.
