The correct answer is d. Movie theater.
The source is Nishinomiya City in the Showa Era, p. 74.
Source: Nishinomiya City in the Showa Era, p. 74
It was originally built as a theater for staging traditional Japanese performing arts. It seems that Noh and kabuki performances were held there, as well as recitals by Koshiji Fubuki.
Apparently, it even became an ice-skating rink in winter. The idea that there was a skating rink there in Showa 25 (1950) makes us wonder what kind of skates people were using back then.
Nichigei Kaikan closed in Showa 30 (1955), and after that, it opened as Toho Kitaguchi Kaikan, before closing in Showa 45 (1970).
The book says that “Prela Nishinomiya” now stands on the site.
So there used to be a movie theater there.
This area really has changed so much over the years.
No one could remember what the site looked like after the movie theater closed.
Around where the housing exhibition center is now along the Yamate Kansen road, there used to be a supermarket called Nichii, and across from it there was Kutsu no Hiraki, right? (*It wasn’t Kutsu no Hiraki, but Kutsu no Tomiyama~ We got it wrong💦 Sorry about that.)
We got really excited talking about that, but when it came to the important part, none of us could remember what was at the Prela Nishinomiya site…
*Added 2/8 Apparently, before Prela Nishinomiya, there was a housing exhibition center there! Thank you for the information.
