The “Imazu Lighthouse,” where a large floodgate is currently being built right in front of it, now appears set to be relocated to the opposite bank of the river.

Where Imazu Lighthouse Will Be Relocated
The new location is said to be about 170 meters southwest of the current site, across the Shinkawa River and Imazu Port.
It’s apparently where materials for the large floodgate are being stored.

Maybe around where the soil is piled up?

The materials were placed at the base of the floodgate, but surely that’s a little too close to it??
I measured it the old-fashioned way in centimeters,
and placed a point where I thought it might be ↓ (the red point)
※On the map it appears to be “in the sea,” but since the footing for the floodgate has already been built, the area has been slightly reclaimed.

The current address is 1-13 Imazu Masago-cho, Nishinomiya City.
The Current Imazu Lighthouse

Here is what the lighthouse looks like now.
The large floodgate is being built as part of Hyogo Prefecture’s port storm surge countermeasure project, apparently as a tsunami prevention measure.

It is the only active wooden lighthouse in Japan. Its official name is “Ozeki Sake Brewery Imazu Lighthouse.”
Relocation work is scheduled to begin around March 2022 and be completed in fiscal 2026.
After it is moved, grass and benches will be installed, creating a place where residents can relax.

In the evening, a green light turns on.
When it moves to the opposite side of the river, the light will apparently change to red, so I tried making an image of what that might look like.

This is the current green light.

After the move, with the red light, maybe it will look something like this??
Under international rules for navigation aids, in Japan, when ships head toward the inner part of a port, lighthouse lights on the left side are green and those on the right side are red.
I had no idea!!

The relocation won’t be completed for quite some time, but it’s good to know that this historic lighthouse will continue operating just as it is.
We hope local residents will continue to treasure and protect it!
