In Closing
As written on the notice, this liquor shop had been in business since 1964 and had even made it through the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake.
I noticed it had closed and took these photos on the day of the Yakujin-san festival, so there were lots of people passing by. I could even hear someone say, “What? It’s closed? I was planning to drink here…”
It was an old-fashioned liquor shop, the kind that would take orders and deliver to customers, like Mikawaya-san from Sazae-san. It also had a standing-drink space, and on festival days at Yakujin-san they would set up a stall selling amazake. It was really rooted in the local community, so it’s sad to see it go.
