It looks like Nishinomiya City elementary and junior high schools will be handing out one tablet per student sometime this month! (*Junior high schools already received theirs in January.)

The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology had set a goal of providing one device per student by fiscal 2023, but in Nishinomiya, they’ll apparently be distributed by the end of this month.
That’s a quick response!
The devices being handed out are tablets with keyboards, like the one in the image above↓
Screen 10.1 inches
Memory 4GB
Weight About 600g (tablet only), about 1,135g (with keyboard attached)
Size About 249mm x 178mm x 9.5mm (tablet only)
About 249mm x 188mm x 18.5mm (with keyboard attached)
Camera Front and rear cameras included
Keyboard Detachable
The learning content will look something like this↓

The tablets will be loaned out, but it seems each student needs to prepare their own carrying bag.
We have an elementary school student at home too, so we got one ready right away!

The tablet is about the same size as a B5 textbook (25.7 x 19.3cm). Since there may also be a mouse and other items, it might be better to choose something with a little extra room!
Finally
Considering the spread of coronavirus variants that can infect children more easily, and what may happen going forward, it’s really reassuring to have an online learning setup ready early!
I was surprised by how quickly Nishinomiya City made this happen, well ahead of the Ministry of Education’s schedule!
