Kojiro Shiraishi is one of Japan’s leading ocean adventurers and yacht racers. His yacht is a serious contender, having completed the Vendée Globe, a race often called the Everest of the sailing world.
Keishi Kimura, who successfully sailed around the world last year, went and took photos of it while it was docked at Nishinomiyahama. The yacht in the foreground is Kimura’s “Miranda.”
And this is Shiraishi’s GLOBAL ONE. I tend to imagine yachts as being small, but this one is seriously massive!
Kojiro Shiraishi completed a circumnavigation of the globe in 1993–1994, becoming the youngest person at the time to do so at 26 years and 10 months old.
Keishi Kimura also learned about “Kojiro Shiraishi, who sailed around the world by yacht” when he was in high school, thought, “I want to try that too,” and went on to complete a solo, nonstop, unassisted circumnavigation of the globe at 24 years and 9 months old, setting the record as the youngest Japanese person to do so.
