Ohagi Rice Cakes Available from 6 AM at Sazae Main Store During Ohigan Sept 17-22

During the Ohigan period from the 17th to the 22nd, it looks like you can buy ohagi at “サザエ本店” from 6:00 in the morning (*^^)v

You might be wondering, “Why are they open so early in the morning?”

It seems that, from long ago, people believed that before taking care of other errands, you should honor your ancestors and make time to visit their graves first! That’s why morning is considered the best time to visit a grave!

So during Ohigan, “サザエ本店” opens bright and early at 6:00 a.m. (^_^)v

By the way, in recent years, many people have family graves far away or are too busy to visit easily, so it’s no longer considered a strict rule that you absolutely have to go in the morning.

Ohagi We Bought at “サザエ本店”

There were two sizes of ohagi !(^^)! Kohagi ¥120 (tax excluded) and ohagi ¥180 (tax excluded), ↓

The smaller “kohagi” come in flavors like sakura (tastes like sakura mochi) and Naruto Kintoki sweet potato (wrapped in sweet potato paste, so it doesn’t really feel like typical ohagi), so you can enjoy all kinds of flavors.

In Closing

If you’ve ever headed east along Route 171, you may have seen the “サザエ” sign! It’s a delicious ohagi shop! But surprisingly, they also have Western-style sweets, and 甘味茶寮 和雅家 is attached too, so it might be worth stopping by even if you’re not just an anko lover (*^^)v

Next time, I’d love to try going to 和雅家 for breakfast, lunch, or dinner (#^.^#)
