The other day, on Sunday, August 13, Sasako, a Nishitsu reporter, went to check out the first public showing of Kenichi Horie’s yacht.

This is Shin Nishinomiya Yacht Harbor!
Here it is on the map↓
The address is 4-16-1 Nishinomiyahama, Nishinomiya City, Hyogo Prefecture.

Among all the huge cruisers, there’s one boat that really stands out for how small it is.

This is definitely the place!

That silhouette!!!!

It’s Kenichi Horie~~~!!!

Last year, Kenichi Horie became the oldest person in the world, at age 83, to complete a solo, nonstop yacht crossing of the Pacific Ocean, and he returned right here to Shin Nishinomiya Yacht Harbor!

This is the Suntory Mermaid III, the yacht that completed the voyage around the world. It’s smaller than I expected!!

We got to take a little peek inside. The cabin is super compact.

It has labels for things like fishing gear, ointment, and raincoats. Simple!
The day he returned may have brought the biggest crowd Nishinomiyahama has ever seen!
In Closing
Back in 1962, when Horie was 23, Nishinomiya was also the place he set off from for his first solo, nonstop voyage across the Pacific. Last year, Nishinomiya was both the starting point and the finish line. That was Kenichi Horie, the world-famous great adventurer who may already be itching to head out again.
