A huge crowd came out when Kenichi Horie arrived at Shin Nishinomiya Yacht Harbor.

On June 4, 2022, Kenichi Horie became the oldest person in the world (at age 83) to complete a solo, nonstop yacht crossing of the Pacific Ocean!

The yacht you can see in the back center is Kenichi Horie’s.

There were helicopters overhead, probably from the media. Three of them were flying around.

A banner like this was put up to celebrate his successful Pacific crossing.

Furuno Electric, a company Nishinomiya is proud of, welcomed Horie out at sea aboard the “Furuno Maru.”
Actually, Furuno Electric’s website made it possible to track Horie’s current location.

It recorded where the boat had been. This is Furuno Electric’s tracking system!

Every location was recorded. Isn’t that amazing?

In 1962, when Horie was 23, the place where he set off on his first solo, nonstop Pacific crossing was also Nishinomiya!!!
A closer look ↓

The port he departed from for this voyage was also Shin Nishinomiya Yacht Harbor!

The yacht is the “Suntory Mermaid III.” By the way, at the Shell Museum, you can see the “Mermaid IV,” which was used for his vertical circumnavigation of the globe. Displayed in spring and autumn

Update 6/7) ———–
It looks like Nishinomiyahama was also buzzing the next day, Sunday 6/5.

What a huge crowd!!! Was the next day even bigger?!
———–

It really is wonderful that the place where this historic achievement finally concluded was Nishinomiya.
Kenichi Horie, congratulations on completing your solo, nonstop Pacific crossing!!
