The UR Group × Hanshin Electric Railway × Mukogawa Women’s University project to revitalize Mukogawa Danchi has won the 2023 Urban Housing Sciences Achievement Award.

Here it is↓

UR Group × Hanshin Electric Railway × Mukogawa Women’s University are working together through industry-academia collaboration, where a private company and a university team up to launch new initiatives.
To bring more life to Mukogawa Danchi, they created “Akado-sha no Aru Hiroba” (the plaza with the Akado-sha), a gathering place for local residents of Mukogawa Danchi, using a retired Hanshin Railway “Akado-sha” train car.
Hanshin Electric Railway, Mukogawa Women’s University, and the UR Group have been working together to hold events like markets, night picnics, and Cheerful Cafe. You may already know that they’ve been making Mukogawa Danchi into a more fun and lively neighborhood~

Apparently, one of the reasons for this award is that the overall image of the area has improved, and more people, including families raising children, have been moving into the housing complex.

They even sell diapers and baby wipes in a vending machine near the plaza. You don’t see parks like that very often, do you~ And the design is Akado-sha themed, too
Finally
One of the great things about industry-academia collaboration is how it can turn the retired Akado-sha train car that everyone loves into a kind of local hero. Normally, that kind of idea wouldn’t come so easily. From rankings of places people want to live to all sorts of other things, it’s nice to see different areas of Nishinomiya getting recognized in various ways.
