There is a park in Higashimachi, Nishinomiya called “Toichi Minami Park”.
It’s read as “とういちみなみこうえん” (Toichi Minami Koen).
Even though it’s in Higashimachi, the park has “Minami” (“south”) in its name, which is kind of curious.
So I went to check it out.
The Origin of the Name Toichi Minami Park
I wondered why a park in Higashimachi would have the character for “south” in its name, so I looked it up.
And the mystery was solved right away😀
According to the Japan 1000 Parks website, it seems the park is named Toichi Minami Park because it’s located at the southernmost part of Higashimachi 1-chome.
Simple enough.
By the way, there also seems to be a park called “Toichi Park” in Higashimachi 1-chome😀
At first glance, “東一南” makes the kanji numeral 一 look like a hyphen… (or is that just me?)
It kind of makes you want to read it as “Higashii Minami Koen.”
“Toichi Minami Park”
One distinctive thing about this park is that the swings, slide, and horizontal bars are all combined into one structure.
The sandbox is attached to it too.
Since it’s a smaller park, the playground equipment is arranged pretty compactly.
The swings are only about 20 cm off the ground, so I thought, “Wow, those are really low!” (It’s hard to tell from the photo…)
