Oike Pond in Koyoen ヽ(^o^)丿
This article is brought to you by “Nichinoken,” a cram school that supports Nishitsu.

The greenery is so beautiful, it feels just like Canada! Okay, maybe that’s going too far (^_^;)

But something is sprouting up from the ground!

Some of them almost look like bamboo shoots (^o^)/You can see Kabutoyama over there too~
Actually, these are part of the tree’s roots!

The tree with roots like these is called “rakuusho”, and its Japanese name is apparently “numasugi”.The trees around Oike Pond have explanatory signs!

Those things sticking up are called pneumatophores, or breathing roots, and they grow upward to take in oxygen from above ground when there isn’t enough oxygen in the soil!! Roots usually make you think of growing downward, so this is a pretty fresh style (^ ^)
As its Japanese name “numasugi” suggests, it can apparently live strongly even in wetlands, but it also grows in ordinary dry places too! In that case, though, the breathing roots don’t appear ^^;
If I find one somewhere else, I’ll compare them(^^)v

This season, yellow irises were also blooming by the pond ^_^
This time, we found something mysterious that you can’t see from the road!
How about taking a stroll by the lakesidewell, technically it’s Koyoen, not Canada ^^; and enjoying a Canada-like feelingor rather, pondside?(^^)v
Here’s the location↓
The address is 1-20 Koyoen Honjocho, Nishinomiya City, Hyogo Prefecture.
