On the south side of Hankyu Shukugawa Station, diagonally across from the Shukugawa Post Office, a shop called “ZERO” serving mala tang and smoothies has opened. Apparently, it’s the first mala tang shop in Nishinomiya. The owner loves mala tang so much that they decided to open a shop😃
This article is brought to you by “GenkiStyle,” a foot treatment clinic that supports Nishitsuu.
I’d heard that “mala tang” is a spicy soup from China, but I’d never tried it before, so I was way too curious and went on opening day.
ZERO’s “Mala Tang” and “Smoothies”
Mala Tang \880
It comes in a sturdy container like this.

Ta-da~~~!!
The soup and toppings are neatly separated.
When you lift up the container with the toppings, the aroma of the soup wafts right up.
Can you picture what I mean by “it smells like Asia~”? Japan is in Asia too, though😂
It’s that nostalgic smell that reminds you of traveling, like “this is what it smells like when you step into an Asian food stall!!” Even if you’ve never been, I think it’ll make you feel like you’re off on a trip😀

I can’t just sit here soaking in nostalgia forever, so let’s put the toppings into the soup.
The toppings are pork, Chinese cabbage, corn, and green onion.

The noodles are called tangmyeon.
They’re flat and super thick~!! Basically, really thick glass noodles. They’re chewy and have a serious bite to them.
Unlike thin glass noodles, you can’t just slurp these down. You definitely need to chew properly or they’ll get stuck in your throat.
As for the flavor, it’s “spicy,” but the medicinal herb-like spices give it a unique taste that’s really addictive.
More than anything, the numbing sensation that hits a little after you start eating might seriously get you hooked😀
※You can choose both the spiciness and numbness on a scale of 1 to 5.
※I chose spice level 2 and numbness level 3.

Personally, I’m not great with spicy food, but it wasn’t so spicy that I couldn’t eat it. Actually, I drank a ton of the soup😀
Maybe thanks to the medicinal spices and chili peppers, the way you gradually start sweating feels perfect for a hot summer. Plus, they say it’s a medicinal soup you can eat at night without feeling guilty~that’s good news for women!!
The soft, simmered Chinese cabbage and sweet corn also help mellow out the spice and numbness, which is great!
(Left)Banana Smoothie ¥450
(Right)Recovery ¥768
Banana Smoothie(banana, coconut oil, milk)
The banana smoothie doesn’t have that heavy, thick banana feel, and personally, I really liked the flavor. People say coconut oil has antioxidant effects and may help with fat burning, right?
I’ve been totally influenced by it and now I even try adding a spoonful of coconut oil when I make banana juice at home😀
Recovery(strawberry/mango/blueberry/cauliflower/lemon/agave syrup)
Recovery seems to be good for recovering from fatigue, tired eyes, hangovers, and reducing swelling😀

That’s what they said~.
I do have hangover days every now and then, so next time that happens, I’d like to go get a Recovery smoothie to take out😅
