We went to eat at “Umehachi Udon”, a famous spot near Nishinomiya City Hall!
“Umehachi Udon” came up in a previous survey asking “What restaurant do you think is the best in Nishinomiya?” with the comment “It’s delicious, affordable, and offers unbeatable value.” It’s the kind of udon shop you’ll want to visit again and again once you’ve tried it 😊
The udon we had at “Umehachi Udon”

“Vegetable Tempura Bukkake Oroshi” 780 yen (tax included)
There’s so much tempura on top that you can’t even see the noodles!!!

When you think of vegetable tempura, there are the classics: okra, lotus root, pumpkin, green beans, eggplant, sweet potato… and also,

carrot and potato! It already feels like the kind of tempura you’d get at home 😂!! Somehow nostalgic!
And then…

Broccoli!?
This was my first time trying it!! I wondered, “Does broccoli really work as tempura? 🙄” and took a cautious bite, but…
Munch munch… ↓↓
It goes so well 😳💦
Do they boil it first and then fry it? Or fry it as is?? Please teach me how to make it 😂

The noodles are firm and thick! I thought there was no way I could finish this much, but I got completely absorbed in eating and even drank up the remaining broth at the end!
It’s also impressive that even after eating this much tempura, I didn’t feel heavy at all 👏
I’m definitely going back 😋 (Officially a repeat customer 😂)
Umehachi Udon shop information

This is the exterior of the shop.

Here’s the menu. When you open it…

↑ The udon menu. Even the options with lots of toppings are reasonably priced!!
There are also set meal menus posted all along the walls inside the shop, complete with photos. (There were lots of customers, so we couldn’t take photos 🙏)
They have something called the “Ochawan Set”, which comes with udon and a rice-bowl-sized donburi (there are tons of varieties). There were lots of even better-value menu items that looked like they’d really fill you up! Go check them out at the shop 🙋

They also have a great takeout selection. Separate from the shop entrance, there’s a “takeout-only window” on the right side 👏
