Under the elevated Hanshin Railway tracks, at “Hanshin Kokashita No. 1 Children’s Park”, we found a huge piece of playground equipment that looks like a telephone receiver!

A phone receiver!?
And it looks like the kind from an old rotary phone, the one you dial by spinning it around!

There’s also a slightly smaller one inside the park!
Still, though!!
Is it really meant to be an object shaped like a phone receiver?
🔎Mystery 1: Is this a chair??
For now, let’s try sitting on it↓

No doubt about it, it fits perfectly!!

The smaller one is easy to sit on too, haha.
But that placement… 😅 Is it for sitting alone and getting lost in thought?
🔎Mystery 2: The holes

There’s a hole that really looks like you could use it to make a call (on the ear side).
🔎Mystery 3: Artificial turf
There’s some artificial turf laid around your feet, making it feel a little more comfortable.
Update: Thursday, May 26
We received a tip about Mystery 2, “the holes in the phone receiver” 😆 Yay! 🙌
And guess what!!!
There didn’t seem to be any string or pipe, so maybe they’re connected underground😳!?
I want to go with two or more people and try it out😆
(This information was provided by Shiribon. Thank you!)
Here’s the map↓
The address is 13 Koshien Urakaze-cho, Nishinomiya City, Hyogo Prefecture.
Finally
A lot of older playground equipment was made with a sense of playfulness, without deciding exactly how it should be used, so that kids could come up with all kinds of ways to play. I think this phone receiver is probably one of those too🙋
Still, it was a surprise to suddenly find a phone receiver under the elevated tracks, haha.
