A Set Meal at Retro-Showa Style Torie Shokudo [Nishitsu Gourmet]

Stylish restaurants are great too, but I also absolutely love old-school Showa-era diners! So this time, I went to Torie Shokudo on Sakagura-dori Street.

The side dishes are self-service, where you pick them out yourself (^^)/

When I asked how many years they’ve been in business, they told me, “Oh, about 50 or 60 years now.” That means they’ve been around so long they’re not even quite sure anymore😀

The Food at Torie Shokudo

Karaage Set Meal（small rice）　750 yen

Of course! It also comes with miso soup.

The chicken was tender and super juicy.

With vegetables and pickles on the side, this is a true Showa-style set meal😊

Pork Ginger Set Meal　800 yen

It had that classic pork ginger flavor, and the sweet-and-savory sauce was amaaaazing.

I also recommend trying it with a little mayonnaise.

Rice and pork ginger together… a Showa-era marriage made in heaven.

You just can’t stop eating rice with this.

I feel like dashimaki omelets at diners always come with an unbeatable sense of trust. So I got greedy and added one as an extra side😀

The dashi flavor really comes through, and as expected, you just can’t go wrong with it😊

The place is run by a mother and daughter, and the very Showa-style atmosphere feels so relaxing. It’s the kind of shop I hope stays around for a long, long time.

I definitely want to try the pork miso soup set meal with sake lees once the weather gets colder.

There weren’t many side dishes left, but they’re lined up like this.
