Apparently, two ray-like fish were spotted swimming in the Shinkawa River that runs next to the DAISO Imazu Kusugawa store.

Are rays really something you can catch that often?!
Most likely, the ones this time may have been a type of ray called Naru-tobi-ei.
They’re black, too. Apparently they like to eat large quantities of bivalves such as clams and oysters, so they’re treated as nuisance fish. Wikipedia says, “Aquaculture experiments using clams, torigai cockles, and other shellfish were carried out to improve water quality, but as a result, Naru-tobi-ei entered the Kobe Canal and caused damage by eating the shellfish.”
They can apparently handle low-salinity environments, become more active in summer, and sometimes enter rivers in search of food.
However, they have a venomous barb on their tail, so they’re dangerous. Please don’t touch them. Also, apparently if you try to eat them, they smell like pee lol
