Area Around the Planned Site of “Meiwa Hospital Second Hospital”
The following photos are from when we covered this site last year.
The road across from it passes in front of Life Hamakoshien and leads out to Hamako Danchi-dori.
If you go this way, it leads toward Koshien Stadium, along the road between Koshien Plus and LaLaport Koshien.
Going in the opposite direction, you’ll come to Koshienhama Athletic Park.

Apparently, the current Meiwa Hospital in Naruo no longer meets modern earthquake-resistance standards, so it is being rebuilt.
The new Second Hospital being built here will be an inpatient-only facility with recovery-phase rehabilitation wards, long-term care wards, and similar units. It looks like there will be no outpatient consultations. Patients currently hospitalized in the Naruo wards will apparently be moved to this Second Hospital.
An LCD panel showing this week’s work schedule had been installed on the fence around the construction site. These days it’s digital instead of blackboards or whiteboards!

Meiwa Hospital is said to have been created by Kawanishi Aircraft, a company that once made fighter planes around what is now Hamakoshien, as a way to make up for the burden it had placed on local residents. Kawanishi Aircraft is now called “ShinMaywa Industries,” and it makes things like the world-class US-2 amphibious aircraft and elevator-style multistory parking systems. Meiwa Hospital is also a cutting-edge facility, including being a specialized medical institution for liver disease, so that seems to be something they have in common.
