On September 30, 2019, the Hanshin Tigers beat Chunichi in their final game of the season and clinched a spot in the Climax Series.
When you think of the Hanshin Tigers’ home stadium, it’s Hanshin Koshien Stadium.
But have you heard of “Koshien Curry,” which you can eat at Koshien Stadium?
It came up when the Nishitsu members were talking about what Nishinomiya’s local specialties might be:
“Koshien Curry”
When you think of Koshien, you think of “Nishinomiya”.
And when you think of Nishinomiya, you think of “Koshien”. So doesn’t that make “Koshien Curry” a Nishinomiya specialty??

We looked into “Koshien Curry”
The three big Koshien foods are “Koshien’s famous Jumbo Yakitori,” “Koshien Yakisoba,” and “Koshien Curry.”
Among them, “Koshien Curry” has apparently been sold since the stadium first opened in 1924 (Taisho 13).
That’s seriously historic! If it started in 1924, this curry has almost 100 years of history!!
Back then, it came with coffee and cost 30 sen. How much was 30 sen worth???
When it’s in sen, the value really doesn’t click at all…
Apparently, 1 sho of white rice cost 42 sen at the time (source), so 30 sen was pretty luxurious!!
I’m really curious what kind of people were eating Koshien Curry back then.
And the fact that it came with coffee is pretty stylish.

There are 5 locations on the 2nd floor of the infield, 4 on the 3rd floor of the infield, and 2 on the 3rd floor of the outfield.
It’s a big stadium, but there are quite a few places where you can buy it!
You can also buy retort-pouch “Koshien Curry” at Tigers shops and online.
