Students from Taisha Junior High School were cleaning up Shukugawa, all 200 of them.
(This info was provided by Miyako-san. Thank you!)
Actually, I had only heard that it was a neighborhood association cleanup that day.

Oh, they’re gathered over there.

I was thinking, “Wow, that looks tough with so few people…” but then…

Somehow, a whole stream of people started coming from the north.

Whoa~~~~ so many came~~~~!! It felt like that line from Princess Mononoke: “They’re back. The warriors have returned from the land of the dead!” lol

This initiative is led by the Taisha District Youth Protection Council (called Seiaikyo for short). As a “community cleanup,” students from Taisha Junior High School and local residents have apparently been cleaning Shukugawa together for more than 20 years.

Apparently, a dozen or so years ago, there were some very energetic, mischievous junior high students too.

Everyone greeted us with a super cheerful “Hello!” I was surprised by how many nice kids there were.

A selected group of 200 students from first to third year took on Shukugawa with rakes and brooms.
The main trash was this↓

This pointy stuff.

Fallen pine needles. They don’t really look like leaves, but they’re fallen leaves lol

They were working hard, pressing them down with their feet so they could fit more in the bags.

Local residents were also gathering up the fallen leaves along Shukugawa Sakura-dori.
Kids are full of energy even in the cold↓

It was cold enough to need a down jacket that day, but they were so energetic!

Students can’t really wear down jackets and stuff, can they?

They cleaned thoroughly around Koorogi Bridge too. They were taking it really seriously. It’s also the habitat? sacred spot? of Nishinomiya Tsushin’s VTuber Nishitsudori

As expected with 200 people on the job. Even an enormous amount of leaves gets cleared away in no time.

There were so many leaves that the students started going wild and scooping them up by hand lol

It was the kind of pile of leaves that makes you wonder how many roasted sweet potatoes you could make with it.

Bags of fallen leaves kept piling up one after another.

All done~~~~~~~~~.

Here’s what all the collected trash bags looked like! There were 61 this time

Oh?

Now that’s some rare loot

At the end, the student council held a quiz contest. Miyatan has Shukugawa attributes? lol He’s a water fairy

They mainly asked quizzes related to Shukugawa and Nishinomiya, like “Is the elevation of Kabutoyama 309 meters?”
- 〇78.9%(45票)
- ×21.1%(12票)

You taught Sato-teru~~!!!! Everyone got super excited.

Finally, everyone from Seiaikyo served…

That thing they spent 3 hours baking, 300 of them in total. What does “30 for adults” mean? lol

Roasted sweet potatoes~~~~!They weren’t roasted with the fallen leaves, but baked in the oven at Taisha Community Center

And they were really warm. Mandarin oranges were also handed out.

It must have been cold. They were holding the sweet potatoes like pocket warmers.

The Taisha Junior High students were so happy.

Seeing them get this happy over sweet potatoes and mandarin oranges…
It made me think that this is exactly the kind of nourishment adults need too.
*Miyako-san, thank you for the tip!!
