Furuno Electric is serving tuna stomach, known as “gonguri.”
We got a message from Nishi2 partner Furuno Electric saying, “We’re going to have a chance for people to try ‘tuna stomach’ – would you like to come taste it?” I was curious, so I went to check it out.
I heard it was at Kofu High School, so I came here! It’s in Tateishi-cho
But something felt off. The school gate was locked, too. It really didn’t look like anything was being served at all.
It was completely my mishearing💦
Turns out it wasn’t “Kofu High School,” but “Nishinomiya Koei High School.” I was stunned. So I hurried over toward Imazu.
I had a packed day of reporting that day,
A taxi, which I almost never take. This is Shachomi from Nishi2, slightly excited after calling one with Taxi GO.

Here, this is it. It says “Nishinomiya Koei High School.” But something seemed different here too. There was nobody inside.
Apparently, there’s another Nishinomiya Koei High School building nearby, kind of like an annex.
I don’t think I’ve ever gotten things wrong this many times before!!! This time it should be right!
When I told the person from Furuno Electric all that, they just went “hehe.” Anyway, forget that – it’s time for the “tuna stomach.”

There are so many people!! This time, as part of an initiative called “Using Furuno’s network to bring fish to children’s cafeterias,” they were serving tuna stomach to support the children’s cafeteria “Shokudo Ebisu.”
“Ebisu Basketball Club,” which runs Shokudo Ebisu. As you’d expect, there’s a basketball hoop, and it’s fun that kids can play basketball here.
Oh! Furuno-kun, oh, no. Is Mile-kun being given out too?!

I’m a pretty picky eater. When I first heard about tuna stomach “gonguri”, I kind of went ugh. I was nervous, so I took just a small amount.
Actually, the fried thing is horse mackerel fry. The small black meat-like pieces are the gonguri.
It’s really easy to eat. It didn’t feel like fish at all – more like meat, and it was delicious. When I asked, it sounded like they worked really hard on the seasoning
So many people came that the place was lively enough to nearly run out of seats.
A Nishi2 reader I’ve met several times while covering events. They were coloring really well.
