According to the source, he received the award in the political category, while actor/personality Taiyo Sugiura apparently won in the entertainment category this time.
Mayor Ishii seems to have said something along the lines of, “Maybe they were being considerate because Nishinomiya is celebrating its 100th anniversary next year.”

Also, according to the source, he reportedly said, “As mayor, maybe I’m in a position kind of like a father to all the children of Nishinomiya.”

Looking back at past Best Father Award winners, people with some connection to Nishinomiya include Hanshin manager Okada, Senichi Hoshino, Teruhiro Yano, Akio Tatsuuma of Hakushika, and President Takamaru of Takamaru Kogyo, a company in Nishinomiya that makes robots.
Lastly
It feels like Nishinomiya has an unusually high win rate, but people from a wide range of fields have received the award, including Hiroshi Madoka, Kanpei Hazama, Yu Darvish, former Akashi mayor Izumi, and Suntory president Torii. (They’re all listed here) Let’s hope another Nishinomiya dad wins next year too.
