For everyone aiming to get into a private junior high school in Nishinomiya, here is some helpful information.

Hotoku Gakuen, nationally known as a regular contender at Koshien, is located along the Muko River. It is about a 20-minute walk from Hankyu Kotoen Station and about 15 minutes by bicycle from JR Koshienguchi Station. Including students coming from JR Koshienguchi, about 60% of all students commute by bicycle.

The address is 5-28-19 Kamioichi, Nishinomiya, Hyogo.
Since it is a boys’ school and a sports powerhouse, I had imagined it would have a full-on “athletic club” atmosphere, but it was not like that at all. The school building was bright, junior high first-year students through senior high third-year students study together, and the atmosphere during breaks was lively and fun.

On top of that, students have been accepted to Kyoto University straight out of high school for two years in a row, along with 4 students accepted to medical schools, 59 to national and public universities, and 83 to Kankandoritsu universities (2024 admissions).
With a study room available year-round and coaching support (paid), I felt these results come from the school’s serious commitment to academics as well.

Honestly, I may have had some preconceived ideas about boys’ schools… But Hotoku Gakuen turned out to be a school with such a bright, enjoyable atmosphere, while also achieving solid results in both sports and academics!
