It looks like Nishinomiya City has been sending out an awareness survey.
(Information provided by Kagayaki No. 509 @ Nishitsu SP)
It looks like this↓

Here’s a quick summary.
- Nishinomiya City conducts a “Citizen Awareness Survey” every year to reflect residents’ voices in future community planning.
- The survey topics are “culture and the arts,” “use of public relations media,” “Green Basic Plan,” and “sharing information related to consumer affairs.”
- The survey targets 3,500 randomly selected residents aged 18 and older who live in the city.
- The survey results will be processed statistically, and individual responses will not be made public.
- An overview of the survey results is scheduled to be published on the city website around mid-March next year.
- Questions include age, gender, occupation, type of housing, length of residence in the city, satisfaction with daily life, experience participating in cultural and arts events, and more.
Examples of Disaster-Related Survey Questions
I’m not sure whether they conduct these every year or once every few years, but apparently the city does run surveys like this, so just to help you be prepared, here are some typical disaster-related survey questions.
- Disaster preparedness
- Do you keep emergency food, drinking water, and other supplies stocked?
- Have you decided on an emergency contact method with your family?
- Do you know the evacuation sites near your home or workplace?
- Ways to gather information
- What source of information do you trust most during a disaster? (TV, radio, internet, social media, LINE, etc.)
- How would you like to receive notifications from the city or local government during a disaster? (Email, app, phone, social media, etc.)
- Do you use social media (such as Twitter or Facebook) during disasters?
- Evacuation behavior
- When evacuation orders or advisories were issued in the past, did you actually evacuate?
- What kinds of disasters (earthquakes, typhoons, heavy rain, tsunamis, etc.) do you think would require evacuation?
- Do you know the route from your home to the nearest evacuation shelter?
- Have you prepared items needed at an evacuation shelter, such as masks, disinfectant, and bedding?
- Concerns during disasters
- What are you most worried about during a disaster? (Family, home, workplace, pets, etc.)
- Do you think enough useful information and support are provided during disasters?
- Participation in disaster drills
- Have you participated in a local disaster prevention drill held within the past year?
- Have you participated in evacuation drills at school or work?
- Disaster awareness and measures
- Do you feel that helping one another with neighbors is necessary during disasters?
- How much trust do you have in the local government’s disaster prevention plan?
- How prepared are your home or workplace in terms of earthquake resistance measures and disaster prevention supplies?
- Use of support systems
- Have you ever received support needed at an evacuation shelter, such as medical care or welfare services?
- Do you use disaster prevention apps or information services provided by the local government?
Finally
It seems the survey response deadline is September 30, and people who haven’t sent theirs in have been receiving reminder-style letters asking them to send it back. Maybe surveys like this will be available online in the future.
