It looks like the Co-op in Kotoen is offering free tutoring and a parent-child cafeteria.

At “Tsudoba CO・KO” inside Co-op Kotoen, they seem to be running an activity called “Terakoya Retex,” offering free tutoring every Friday for children from 1st grade elementary school through 3rd year high school. For families who have difficulty sending their children to cram school for various reasons, this must be an incredibly helpful and valuable place.

In addition to the free tutoring, they also run a parent-child cafeteria that serves well-balanced meals supervised by a registered dietitian. It’s lovely that the meals are offered not only to the children, but also to the family members who come to pick them up!
On Friday, December 20, there will apparently be Christmas events like a game tournament and cake decorating. What’s more, participating children will receive a gift: a sacoche filled with snacks.

The sacoche supports Noto Peninsula earthquake relief
The sacoches handed out at the Christmas event are charity goods that help support areas affected by the Noto Peninsula earthquake.
These are sold by the Nishinomiya City Council of Social Welfare as part of its “Smile Project.” Because Nishinomiya experienced the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake, support efforts like this continue to carry special meaning here. It seems support for the Noto Peninsula is still far from enough, so it would be nice if Nishinomiya could help in some way.

Many people may not have known that activities like this were taking place in Kotoen. From watching over children as they do homework or study on their own, to helping with test preparation and even offering相談 support, it’s a warm and wonderful community effort to look after local children.
