It looks like the wagashi shop “美吉屋(Miyoshiya)” in Koshienguchi 3-chome will be closing.
(This information was provided by Mariru-san and Monchan@Nishitsu SP.)
About the shop name: originally, the top part of the “吉” character is written as “土.” However, due to the system used by Nishinomiya Tsushin, we are writing it as “吉.”

It seems they will be closing as of Tuesday, December 31. The reasons are said to be physical limitations and aging equipment. They had apparently been in business for over 80 years.
Until the 31st, the following mochi will be available↓
- Komochi
- Bomochi
- Ebi mochi
- Kuromame mochi
- Awa mochi
- Yomogi mochi
- Urumochi
Here it is on the map↓
The address is 3-14-19 Koshienguchi, Nishinomiya City, Hyogo Prefecture.
Area Around “御菓子処 美吉屋”

If you go this way, you’ll find Unagi no Naruse, Nagomi Ramen, Life, and other spots, leading out to the Koshienguchi Honwaka Shopping Street.

If you go in the opposite direction, you’ll find Koshien Hanten.
Monchan@Nishitsu SP visited one last time and bought some freshly made “maru mochi”.

Monchan’s Memories of “美吉屋”
When I spoke with the couple, they said their age and the aging of the machines were part of the reason.
It sounds like they’ll be taking it easy from now on while watching their health.
My mother-in-law and I used to go shopping at Miyoshiya about three times a week.
Their ohagi is delicious, but what we always bought was the sekihan!
It’s absolutely excellent, with just a little saltiness, and Miyoshiya’s sekihan is the kind you can eat just as it is.
Another old-fashioned shop is disappearing… It’s sad.
On the way back from my mother-in-law’s weekly hair salon visit and twice-weekly supermarket shopping, we always stopped by “美吉屋” and “肉よし”☺️
The hair salon and Nikuyoshi have both closed already, and now Miyoshiya too…
Koshienguchi has changed so much.
Finally

According to an article by “Nishimag,” a Nishinomiya information site, Miyoshiya’s “Kiku Monaka” apparently won a “Minister’s Award” about 30 years ago. Amazing, isn’t it? It’s truly sad and unfortunate that a shop so beloved by locals for so many years is bringing its 80-year history to a close. They’ll be open until the 31st of this month, with three days left, so please consider stopping by one last time.
Mariru-san and Monchan@Nishitsu SP-san, thank you for the information!!
