We might not be able to eat sushi anymore someday

Apparently, Osaka Bay is really polluted. And when we say Osaka Bay, that includes the sea around Nishinomiya too…

According to materials from Osaka Prefecture and Osaka University’s Graduate School of Engineering, a huge amount of trash is flowing from rivers into Osaka Bay.

You might be thinking, “What is this sci-fi-looking cockpit?!”, but this is an actual facility in Nishinomiya belonging to Nishinomiya’s pride, FURUNO ELECTRIC.

In 1948, FURUNO ELECTRIC became the first in the world to successfully put a fish finder into practical use. With its super-advanced marine technology, FURUNO ELECTRIC was apparently invited to take part in an amazing project.
Sushi might disappear
When you’re wondering “Where should we go eat?”, one of the classic answers is definitely sushi, right?

This is sushi from Nishitsu Friends member Rikimaru
“If things keep going like this, by 2040, the only sushi we’ll be able to eat will be cucumber rolls.”

The person who said that was FURUNO ELECTRIC ambassador “Sakana no Oniisan Kawa-chan”.

Last year, he gave a talk at Kawaragi Elementary School. When he talked about how we might not be able to eat sushi anymore, the elementary school students reacted like, “What?! Sushi is going away?! Nooo!”

If the ocean environment around fish becomes polluted with plastic waste, it could have a major impact on the number of fish. For Japanese people, this is a pretty serious issue.
