Nishinomiya Central Sports Park’s major renovation appears to be delayed by about three years.

During a survey to check for buried cultural properties conducted at the planned construction site in fall 2024, it seems that manyartifacts dating from the Kofun period through the early modern period were discovered🏺🙌
Because of this, a further full-scale excavation survey will be carried out.
The completion of the entire park is expected to be delayed by three years, with completion now projected for around March 2032.

It looks like a jar called Sue ware (sueki). The kind we learned about in school way back when〜😆

The moment history emerges from the soil… there’s something so romantic about it〜😍
They are also considering holding an exhibition of the artifacts found during the excavation at the local history museum, as well as an on-site briefing session.
What’s the schedule going forward?
*Latest redevelopment project schedule as of May 2025
According to the current schedule,
- Around July 2025: Preparatory work begins to drain spring water
- Around September 2025: Full-scale excavation survey (Phase 1) begins〜
- Until around 2027: Careful excavation over roughly two years
- From 2027 onward: The existing gymnasium will be demolished, followed by Phase 2 excavation
- Around March 2032: Completion of the entire park (about three years later than originally planned)
During the excavation survey, it seems that other redevelopment work will continue in parallel wherever possible〜🙌

Finally
The park was originally scheduled to be completed in October 2025, but the final timeline now points to 2032. In the end, that means a delay of about seven years. Incidentally, 2032 is also when the redevelopment around Hanshin Nishinomiya is scheduled to be completed〜! It feels like there may be new discoveries in Nishinomiya, kind of like the site of the new hospital near Hanshin-Kokudo😊 It would be exciting if this turned into a major discovery for the ages. We’ll share more updates on Nishitsu as soon as we hear anything〜
