The final of the 107th National High School Baseball Championship was even more exciting than usual, so we’re bringing you a quick report!

Before the Game
10 minutes before the game started. The crowd was incredible. There were even temporary buses running from Koshienguchi.
There was a line just to get into the stands. About 8 minutes or so. Still better than the Expo.
There was also a bus for the “Okinawa Shogaku High School cheering tour” parked there!
During the Game
About 50,000 people! It was a full house!
The stands for Okinawa Shogaku High School. Since Okinawa Prefecture is so far away, the brass band performance has been handled every year for the past 44 years by the Municipal Amagasaki High School Brass Band Club.
And here’s the moment they won! The excitement was unreal.

Closing Ceremony
Comments from Japan High School Baseball Federation Chairman Takara Kaoru. He’s an alumnus of Nishinomiya Kita High School and Taisha Junior High School!

Even if you win at Koshien, you can still take home some dirt! For the junior high and elementary school athletic meets, taking dirt home is not allowed.
After the closing ceremony, a wave started from the Okinawa Shogaku High School stands and went around three times. To tell the truth, waves are actually prohibited under Koshien Stadium rules…

The Unusual Things That Happened in Okinawa After Reaching the Final
This time, because the Okinawa Prefecture representative advanced to the final, something unusual was happening in Okinawa.
The Mayor of Urasoe Issued an Unusual Warning
What does it mean that “all social activity other than electricity, water, and gas may drop significantly”!?
People Disappeared from the Streets
Okinawa is a car-centric prefecture. Even though people mainly get around by car rather than trains or buses, once the game started, there were hardly any cars on the road.

No One Could Focus on Work!
High school baseball came before their own jobs. Some stores even closed until the game was over.

Finally
There are all kinds of student sports tournaments besides baseball, but I think high school baseball may be the only one where an entire prefecture comes together to cheer in the final and celebrate the championship together. And that high school baseball tournament is held at Koshien in Nishinomiya. It really makes you feel that “Koshien” is truly special, and an incredible place.
