What is the Seishu Kanpyokai?
It’s an appraisal held every year by the National Tax Agency to promote advances and development in sake-brewing techniques, as well as improvements in the quality of alcoholic beverages. The National Tax Agency and sake feel like a surprisingly unexpected pairing.

The appraisal is held by each regional taxation bureau, and the Osaka Regional Taxation Bureau evaluates sake from the two prefectures and four prefectures of the Kinki region, then selects the Excellence Award winners.
Which sake won?
The brand names have been announced, but we couldn’t find out exactly which specific sake products received the awards😭 Since the awards are given by brewery, maybe they’re evaluating the sake as a base brew.

Still, they’re all flagship brands from their companies, so there’s a good chance a sake🍶 you’ve had before is among the winners!
Finally
That’s what you’d expect from the town of Miyamizu! Nishinomiya breweries are taking Excellence Awards in both ginjo sake and warmed sake categories. It really shows Nishinomiya’s strength. Maybe you’ll find yourself thinking, “Wait, that sake I drank the other day might actually have won an Excellence Award…!” It’s also kind of surprising and interesting that the tax bureau does something like this.
