Only lucky charms, first calligraphy of the year, and other burnable items are accepted. They are not accepting mochi, daidai oranges, mandarin oranges, or old New Year’s cards.

According to Mukogawa Paradise, they even go all the way to Tamba-Sasayama to cut timber and collect bamboo.

By the way, last year’s event also served as a disaster-prevention drill, with activities like a disaster VR experience and emergency water supply training held alongside it. Will they have anything like that this year? Apparently, only two elementary schools in the city currently hold Dondo-yaki events on their school grounds, so it’s actually pretty rare. If you live nearby and still have last year’s lucky bamboo branches or similar items at home, why not stop by? 🌿
