It looks like the “Large Buttonweed Removal Operation” will be held at Omaehama on Sunday, June 7.
(Thanks to Nino-san for the tip)
Here it is ↓

This is a weeding event to help protect the rare sandy beach. It seems to be a team competition where participants compete to see how much of the invasive plant “Oo-futaba-mugura” they can remove. There will apparently be participation prizes too 😄

Oo-futaba-mugura is an invasive plant native to North America that tends to spread easily on sandy beaches and riverbeds. It produces cute flowers, but if it spreads too much, it may take over the habitat of coastal plants that originally grow at Omaehama.

Lastly
Turning what would normally be a pretty tough weeding job into a team competition is such a fun idea. Once you get started, it seems like you could really get into it like a game, trying to figure out how to pull out as much as possible as quickly as possible. And the fact that it directly helps protect the environment is great too. It sounds like it would be fun to join with family or friends.
*Nino-san, thank you very much for the tip!!
