Just a short walk from Hankyu Kurakuenguchi Station, we visited “Karaage Asahi,” a takeout-only shop that opened on Sunday, March 22.
As you can see, the outside of the shop was lined with congratulatory flowers.
Here’s our article about the opening of “Karaage Asahi”↓↓
Karaage from “Asahi”

What we bought was 200 g of thigh, 200 g of breast, and 200 g of gizzard.
*Normally orders start from 100 g, but to help ease crowding, orders were starting from 200 g.
I had already decided I was getting the “thigh,” but there were so many other kinds that I couldn’t choose.
Since I couldn’t decide, I asked the staff for recommendations and ended up buying the “gizzard” and “breast.”
Here’s what we thought after eating↓↓

“The gizzard has a nice crunch. Tasty.”
“The breast is good too.”

“The thigh is crispy on the outside and really juicy inside.”
“The breast doesn’t have that dryness you usually get, and it’s well seasoned.”
“The gizzard doesn’t have any strong smell, it’s nicely seasoned, and it seems perfect with beer.”

“The gizzard is good.”

“The gizzard is bite-sized and easy to eat. Now I want beer.”
“The breast is, wait, super juicy.”
“The thigh is juicy as expected. It’s not too oily and feels light, so I could probably eat a bunch.”
So, as you can tell, everyone agreed that this karaage was delicious.
We ate it around 3 p.m., right after lunch when we were all still pretty full, but nobody could stop reaching for more.

“Okay, I’ll have just one more.”
By the time he said that, there wasn’t a single piece left, and even the dishes had already been washed.
Shacho, we’ll buy some again.
The Menu at “Asahi”

(*Prices, menu items, business hours, and other details are as of the time of our visit. Please check directly with the shop for the latest information.)
This is their opening menu.
The next change is planned for early May.
Maybe the menu will keep getting more and more refined!!
We’re looking forward to it.
We stopped by on Monday, March 23, the second day after opening, and the shop was packed with customers. As of 2 p.m., several items had already sold out.(Sold-out items: boneless mix, party set, spicy nankotsu cartilage, tonkatsu)
Apparently, the opening day on the 22nd was also a huge success.(According to a former classmate we happened to run into in front of Asahi)
2. We marinate it in sauce made with Kyushu soy sauce, sun-dried salt, vegetables, and fruits.
3. We serve freshly fried karaage that’s crispy and juicy.
4. We use 100% rice oil, which is gentle on the body, so you can keep eating piece after piece.
5. Bringing the flavor of Nakatsu City, Oita Prefecture, the sacred home of karaage, to Kansai.

Final Thoughts
We visited on the second day after opening, and the shop was filled with customers’ laughter and the delicious smell of karaage.
One of the customers there happened to be a Nishitsu reader and told us they read Nishitsu. They even helped us take photos of the menu, which made us really happy.
The “spicy nankotsu cartilage” was sold out this time, so next time I want to go before it sells out.
