I visited the bakery “gnome” in Mondo Higashimachi near Mondo Yakujin (along the street where lots of stalls line up during the Yakujin festival).
It’s a shop I pass by all the time. Lately there always seems to be a line outside. I wonder why～(・・?
As a coronavirus precaution, only one group was allowed inside at a time (^_^)v
After entering, customers sanitize their hands too.
The shop originally uses a face-to-face sales style where you choose bread displayed in a showcase, so it feels even more reassuring (*^^)v
Apparently, their hard-crust breads are especially popular (#^.^#)
The bread I bought
New Potato Salt Bread ￥200 (tax excluded)…A seasonal item. I’m weak when it comes to limited-time itemsー^^; Butter and anchovies are kneaded into baguette dough, along with plenty of new potatoes and aosa seaweed. The aroma of the aosa comes through, while the sweetness of the new potatoes and the saltiness of the cheese and anchovies give it a nice balance. It works well as a meal bread too (*^^)v It might even go nicely with wine!(^^)!
Wiener Bread ￥220 (tax excluded)…A slightly sweet dough topped with everyone’s favorite sausage and cheese.
Complet Noix 1 loaf ￥600 (tax excluded) / 1/2 loaf ￥300 (tax excluded)…The photo shows it sliced. This one was recommended by the shop staff (*^^)v It’s a whole wheat bread packed with roasted walnuts! It has a good, hearty weight to it, and the more you chew, the more the flavor comes through.

Final thoughts
A small bakery in a residential neighborhood. With measures like letting in only one group at a time, hand sanitizing, and no need to pass through crowds, it was a shop where coronavirus precautions were firmly in place and you could buy bread with peace of mind. And it’s delicious too!
It’s nice when peace of mind and great taste come as a set, isn’t it? (#^.^#)
The cherry blossoms in front of the shop had started fluttering down.. Why not stop by to buy some bread while out for a stroll (or a walk, if you’re coming from farther away) (*^_^*)
